Mike Welch is our resident Neuromeditation coach here at Whole Body Healing. Neuromeditation is an excellent nervous system regulation tool that is accessible to do online, and is easily practiced at home.

Why Neuromeditation? Meditative techniques are one of the most effective ways to regulate the nervous system. Neuromeditation specifically is designed to help make meditative practices more accessible for people with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

Mike started practicing meditation just like most people, as a way to further reduce his stress and regulate his emotional responses, but he struggled a lot with getting any consistent results for the practice. One day he was researching non medication methods to manage his ADHD and he stumbled across Dr. Jeff Tarrant and his book, “Meditation interventions to rewire the brain”, which included meditation techniques specifically for ADHD, PTSD, depression and anxiety. Having dealt with every one of those diagnoses, he was immediately intrigued.

Mike was amazed at the numerous helpful tools in the book and immediately decided to get certified as a Neuromeditation coach.

These techniques have helped Mike’s mental health level up in a huge way. He honed in on essential, foundational Focus Meditation techniques that made the advanced methods far more accessible. He has even learned Quiet Mind Meditation, one of the most difficult methods, which he previously thought was impossible for someone with ADHD.

One of his favorite techniques is Mindfulness, which tends to be particularly helpful for people with PTSD. Mindfulness is really just kind of experiencing and observing all of your senses at once, to hear and experience all of these things without any attachment or judgment. Make has found this practice to be incredible valuable and even changed the way he experienced life as a whole. People with PTSD tend to feel disoriented, and unable to integrate sensory experience. Mindfulness can be a tool of integration for this struggle. Mike notes that he still sometimes struggles with Compassion meditation, which he is actively working on, which includes feeling compassion for all people and all things and feeling self compassion.

The thing Mike appreciates the most about Neuro meditation is that it truly takes into account neurodiversity and does not use a one size fits all approach. Meditation is not simple or accessible for a lot of people who get really discouraged and frustrated when they feel like they fail over and over. Knowing how to kind of start out your meditation practice for your specific neuro type in a clear, structured way is incredibly valuable because you’re still going to get these incredible benefits from meditation that have been clinically shown over and over and over again, you just have to know the right way to kind of get into it for your brain.

Dr. Tarrant developed Neuromeditation from 20 years of data where he has hooked people up to EEG’s and watched their brainwaves both before, during and after meditation so he can actually see how different techniques affect the brain. Mike wants to make these practices common knowledge for everyone ready to embark on their own meditation journey.
